“Bibury: The Most Beautiful Village in the Cotswolds”

Date:

A picturesque village in the Cotswolds has captured global attention for its enchanting allure and renowned cottages.

Renowned for its golden-hued buildings, rolling hills, and idyllic villages, the Cotswolds showcase some of the most stunning landscapes in the country. Many of its towns have received prestigious accolades for their quintessentially English appeal.

Among these charming locations is Bibury, nestled in Gloucestershire at the heart of the Cotswolds. Characterized by ancient honey-colored stone architecture, the winding River Coln, and Rack Isle water meadow, Bibury is a short drive from Cirencester, known as the ‘Capital of the Cotswolds.’

Bibury has gained worldwide acclaim, being named the most beautiful village globally by Forbes last September and previously recognized as one of the world’s most picturesque villages. English designer and poet William Morris also hailed Bibury as ‘the most beautiful village in England.’

Despite its size, Bibury draws thousands of visitors annually, notably for Arlington Row, a row of historic cottages dating back to the 14th century. Today, these cottages are private residences, with Arlington Row being the most photographed spot in the Cotswolds. Some houses in this area have signs politely requesting no photography due to the high influx of tourists.

The village’s beauty is further accentuated by the nearby River Coln, lush green spaces, streams, and charming establishments. Across from Arlington Row stands Eleven Bibury, a stylish café, gallery shop, and terraced garden.

Another attraction in Bibury is the Bibury Trout Farm, offering picturesque views and activities like fishing, crazy golf, and dining at the café or Kelly’s Ice cream. The Twig café nearby is a popular stop for coffee and cake before exploring the scenic paths and walking routes surrounding Bibury.

For accommodations, visitors can choose from holiday rentals like Sackville House, The Bothy, and Sundial Cottage, or opt for the four-star experience at The Swan Hotel. While Bibury may not offer extensive activities, its picturesque setting, tranquil river walks, and serene atmosphere against the backdrop of stone cottages make it a must-visit destination.
