“Know Before You Sip: Rules for Bringing Hot Drinks on UK Airlines”

Date:

When you’re in a rush to catch a budget airline flight at an early hour, you’re probably already thinking about that much-needed first cup of coffee. After passing through security, many travelers head straight to the closest café to fuel up for the journey ahead.

However, not all airlines permit passengers to bring hot drinks onboard. While some airlines allow hot beverages as long as they are securely covered, others require passengers to discard their freshly brewed drinks, leaving them waiting for the in-flight service for their caffeine fix.

It’s crucial to review your airline’s policies regarding bringing beverages onboard to avoid wasting money on a coffee that may need to be disposed of before boarding.

Here is what some of the UK’s top airlines have to say about carrying hot drinks onboard as per their regulations.

For easyJet passengers, bringing your own food and drinks is allowed, although the airline also offers its own selection on board. According to the easyJet website, passengers can bring hot drinks onboard if purchased at the airport and properly covered.

When purchasing your takeaway beverage, ensure you retain the lid or consider investing in a reusable cup with a secure seal like the Byron 2.0 SNAPSEAL™ Travel Mug, which can be filled with your favorite drink at the airport.

Regrettably, Jet2 travelers are not permitted to bring hot drinks onboard, even if purchased at the airport, due to safety reasons. Instead, Jet2 offers various meal deals and sandwich options that can be pre-purchased through Manage My Booking.

Ryanair allows passengers to bring cold food and drinks onboard but prohibits hot drinks and personal alcohol consumption during the flight. Passengers can use the Ryanair app to order food and drinks before or during the flight, with limited options available, including coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and cappuccino.

TUI does not specify whether passengers can bring hot drinks onboard. The airline recommends low-risk, cold food options like pre-made sandwiches and snacks for consumption during the flight.

British Airways does not explicitly ban hot drinks from being brought onboard. The airline requires all food and drinks to pass security checks and customs regulations.

British Airways’ High Life Café offers an extensive selection of hot drinks on most short-haul flights, including a variety of coffees, Birchall teas, and hot chocolate.

Flight attendants may have the final say on whether passengers can bring hot drinks onboard, so it may be best to wait for the in-flight service for your beverage. TUI’s inflight café menu features a range of coffee and tea options, including cappuccinos, Americanos, herbal tea, and hot chocolate.
