“Outrage in Turkey: Woman’s Dismembered Body Found in Trash Bin”

Date:

In Turkey, a woman’s dismembered body was discovered in a trash bin, causing widespread outrage across the country. The body, wrapped in a sheet, was found by a paper collector looking for recyclables in Istanbul’s Sisli district on Saturday evening.

The victim, identified as a 37-year-old Uzbek national, had her head and legs located by investigators through CCTV footage, which captured two men disposing of a suitcase in another bin.

Following the disturbing find, police swiftly apprehended two suspects, also Uzbek nationals, at Istanbul Airport as they tried to flee the country. A third suspect was later taken into custody, sparking protests and public anger.

Over a thousand individuals participated in marches in Istanbul and Ankara, advocating against femicides and seeking justice for the slain woman. Crowds gathered at Osmanbey metro station in Sisli, carrying banners with messages like “Stop male violence!” and “Migrant women are not alone.”

Isil Kurt from Turkey’s We Will Stop Femicides Platform condemned the perpetrators’ audacity, highlighting the prevalent issue of violence against women that persists unchanged over time.

While only local statistics on femicides are available in Turkey, the Stop Femicides civil platform compiled data showing that in 2025, 294 women were murdered by men and 297 women were found dead under suspicious circumstances.

A shocking revelation by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and UN Women disclosed that in 2024, approximately 50,000 women and girls were killed by family members or partners, equating to one death every 10 minutes.
