“UK Weather Alert: Heavy Rainfall Expected in Southern England”

Date:

Heavy rainfall is set to impact parts of the UK today, with up to 50mph expected in southern England, including London, Surrey, and Hampshire. The Met Office has issued a weather warning for rain in these areas until 10pm, covering locations like London, Kent, Surrey, and Sussex. Brighton, which typically receives 75mm of rain in January, could see over 50mm today, raising concerns of flooding. Residents are advised to prepare an emergency kit with essential items like insurance documents, contact numbers, a flashlight, and medications.

Southampton, also under the weather warning, may experience about half of its usual January rainfall today. The Met Office forecasts an area of low pressure moving northeastwards across England, bringing heavy rain throughout the day. Accumulations of 20-30mm are expected widely, with isolated spots possibly receiving 40-50mm, leading to surface water flooding.

Recent rainfall in Argyll and Bute triggered flood warnings along the River Severn in Gloucestershire and Worcestershire. Flood alerts are in place for rivers around London, such as the River Mole in Surrey and Rivers Wid and Can in Essex. The upcoming weekend is predicted to be unsettled, with rain clearing on Friday and showers likely on Saturday before drier conditions on Sunday.
