“Gruesome Discovery: Severed Heads Found on Ecuador Beach”

Date:

Visitors at a popular beach in Ecuador were shocked to discover five severed heads displayed along the shore with a threatening message. The gruesome find took place in Puerto López, a charming fishing village known for whale watching and scenic coastlines. The town has been facing challenges from drug-trafficking cartels due to increased cocaine smuggling activities.

Local authorities have linked this disturbing incident to conflicts between rival criminal factions in the region. Photos circulating on social media depict the heads lined up on a rope between two wooden poles, accompanied by a message asserting control over the town and warning against extortion. The victims, five males aged 20 to 34, had been reported missing in recent weeks, with their bodies yet to be located.

Ecuador, situated between Colombia and Peru, notorious for cocaine production, has seen a surge in violent crime, making it the most dangerous country in South America. In 2025, the country witnessed a record high of 9,176 murders, surpassing other nations in the region such as Mexico, Colombia, and Brazil.

Ecuador’s coastal towns like Puerto López have become key hubs for drug trafficking, facilitating the transportation of cocaine to Europe and the US, as noted by the International Crisis Group, a human rights organization.

On December 28, 2025, a tragic incident unfolded at Puerto López beach where six individuals, including a two-year-old child, lost their lives in a shooting. The violence was linked to internal disputes within a local gang known as Los Choneros, which has been identified as a terrorist group by the US government and is estimated to have around 20,000 members.
