“Texan Woman Sells Everything, Moves to Spain for New Life”

Date:

A woman made a life-changing decision to relocate to Spain, selling off her possessions to embrace a new beginning. Brittnee Dawley, 32, embarked on a journey after finding solace and improved well-being during her visits to Madrid and Barcelona in June 2024.

By July 2024, Brittnee committed to moving overseas in search of a fulfilling experience and navigated through visa options, ultimately selecting a 12-month student visa. She liquidated all her assets, including her home, car, and balloon art business, bidding farewell to her hometown of Houston, Texas, USA, for the first time in June 2025.

Upon arriving in Spain without secured housing, she diligently scouted 20 apartments within a week before settling into a two-bedroom residence with a fellow visa holder. Formerly spending around $5,000 monthly on living expenses in the U.S., Brittnee shared that her costs have significantly decreased in Valencia, where she now allocates just $2,150 for rent and utilities.

Dedicating four hours a day, Monday to Friday, to Spanish language studies, she aims to complete her Dele Spanish Diploma by June 2026. Reflecting on her decision, Brittnee expressed contentment with the change, highlighting the tranquility and reduced stress she now experiences compared to her hectic life back home.

Transitioning to a more relaxed pace in Spain has enabled Brittnee to cut her monthly expenses by more than half, a stark contrast to the financial burdens she faced in the U.S. Embracing the vibrant Spanish lifestyle, she finds joy in the slower pace, increased social interactions, and a newfound sense of peace.

Engaging with locals and formal language training has enhanced Brittnee’s Spanish proficiency, leading her to pass her Dele B1 exam. Anticipating her future in Spain, she envisions pursuing a digital nomad or self-employment visa post-qualification.

Despite missing her family and the challenges of time zone differences, Brittnee remains resolute in her decision to stay in Spain indefinitely, citing personal growth and fulfillment as key factors driving her desire to make Spain her permanent home.
