A woman from Florida, Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, faced charges of attempted murder and assault with a semiautomatic firearm after allegedly firing gunshots at singer Rihanna’s residence in Los Angeles. The incident occurred on Sunday outside the celebrity’s Beverly Hills home. Although nobody was injured, it was reported that Rihanna and her partner ASAP Rocky, along with their three children, were present at the time.
According to Los Angeles Police chief Jim McDonnell, Ortiz was accused of shooting at Rihanna’s property, targeting an Airstream parked there. The charges against Ortiz included multiple counts of assault and shooting at an inhabited vehicle or dwelling, all classified as felonies.
Ortiz, who allegedly made threatening remarks towards Rihanna on social media prior to the incident, was held on a $10.2 million bail awaiting her arraignment in a Los Angeles court. Investigators indicated that Ortiz traveled from Florida to Los Angeles, where she was apprehended following the shooting. It was revealed that Ortiz worked as a licensed speech pathologist in Florida and had recently resided in Orlando.
There was no immediate confirmation of any connection between Ortiz and Rihanna. The investigation led to Ortiz’s arrest, during which a weapon was seized by the authorities. It remained uncertain if Ortiz had legal representation, as attempts to contact her through provided phone numbers and email addresses were unsuccessful.
KABC-TV aired footage displaying bullet holes in Rihanna’s gate, with reports of 10 shots being fired according to police dispatch audio. Rihanna, a renowned Grammy Award-winning artist with numerous chart-topping hits, recently welcomed her third child with ASAP Rocky.
