The wife of a “devoted father” who was hit and killed by a police car in central London paid tribute to her loving husband. Australian David Clark tragically passed away after being struck by the marked vehicle in Borough on January 7. The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is investigating the incident, confirming that Mr. Clark was attended to by police officers but was pronounced dead at the scene.
In a heartfelt statement, Mrs. Clark expressed the profound loss caused by her husband’s death and emphasized her focus on caring for their seven-month-old daughter. She described David as a loving husband, a dedicated father, a son, a brother, and a cherished friend, highlighting the significant impact his passing has had on their lives.
The IOPC disclosed that Mr. Clark, a 35-year-old Australian national residing in Scunthorpe, Lincs, was involved in a fatal road traffic incident with a Metropolitan Police vehicle. They mentioned that investigations are ongoing, involving footage review and interviews with the police officers present at the scene.
Acknowledging the support received from well-wishers during this difficult time, Mrs. Clark requested privacy for her family and friends as they cope with their loss and focus on honoring David’s memory privately. Amanda Rowe, Director of the IOPC, extended sympathies to the Clark family, assuring them of regular updates on the investigation and respecting their privacy.
The community has rallied around the Clark family, initiating a fundraising campaign to assist with repatriating Mr. Clark’s remains to Australia, raising over £15,000. The IOPC emphasized the importance of an independent investigation into the incident involving the police and assured that the officers are being treated as witnesses as the inquiry progresses.
