A former inmate, using the alias Raven Johnson, revealed insights from her two-year stay at the Federal Correctional Institution Tallahassee alongside Ghislaine Maxwell. Johnson disclosed that Maxwell, known for her sex offenses, was ostracized by fellow prisoners, being considered the “lowest of the low” due to her crimes against children, which led to a lack of respect from others.
According to Johnson, Maxwell’s circle of friends was restricted, with her closest companion being a murderer and another friend facing severe child sex charges. Johnson described Maxwell as displaying entitled behavior behind bars, disliked by prison staff for her demanding attitude and skipping meal queues.
Despite Maxwell’s negative reputation among inmates, she engaged in teaching a 12-week law course, proving to be knowledgeable and effective as an instructor. This newfound role in education seemed to resonate with Maxwell, who was described as dedicated to assisting inmates with legal matters.
A particular incident highlighted Maxwell’s reaction to a TV program about her life, causing a disturbance in the facility. The attention on Maxwell from external sources, such as media coverage and helicopters attempting to capture photographs, disrupted the normal operations of the prison.
Maxwell’s experience in prison took a turn when she was moved to a minimum-security federal prison camp in Bryan, Texas, in August 2025, following her 2022 conviction for sex trafficking, where she is serving a 20-year sentence.
