A man described as a “vile monster” used a Dyson vacuum cleaner to strangle his wife before leaving their three-year-old son alone at home with a bowl of Coco Pops.
The 20th anniversary of Siobhan McLaughlin’s brutal murder by her husband, Brian Kearney, is approaching as he prepares to appear before the Parole Board soon.
Siobhan, who was about 20 when she met Kearney, married him after a two-year separation. They purchased a hotel in Mallorca and later returned to Ireland.
Siobhan’s sister, Brighid, voiced that they were ill-matched, with Kearney isolating her from family. Despite outward stability, the marriage was troubled, and they planned to separate before her tragic death at 38.
Kearney strangled Siobhan and attempted to stage her death as a suicide using a vacuum cleaner cord. He left their son with Coco Pops in the house after the horrific act.
Family members discovered the crime scene, leading to Kearney’s conviction for murder in 2008. He is currently serving his sentence in a Dublin prison and seeks day release, causing fear among Siobhan’s family.
