A fire incident at a residence in Co Down on Sunday resulted in the discovery of a cannabis cultivation operation, as per reports. The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) were the first responders who alerted the authorities to the presence of a significant amount of cannabis and related equipment found within the flames in Newry.
Inspector Walker stated that they received a call about a house fire on Thomas Street in Bessbrook around 4.25pm on Sunday, January 18th. Fortunately, the house was empty at the time, and there were no injuries reported. The inspector reassured the local community that there was no ongoing danger to the public from the fire, and the area was secured afterward.
The authorities are not treating the fire as suspicious at this point, and investigations are ongoing, as reported by Belfast Live.
