A man tragically passed away in the emergency room of an NHS hospital after collapsing, with his son describing the scene as deplorable. Thomas Casey, 34, died at Broomfield Hospital in Essex following what his son, Thomas Jr, claims was a clear heart problem. According to Thomas Jr, his father was made to wait and given pain relief, despite his worsening condition causing visible distress in the waiting area.
Thomas Jr described his father’s suffering as unbearable, requesting privacy screens for his father’s dignity. The lack of immediate attention and care for Mr. Casey was highlighted when a doctor allegedly callously suggested that other patients should look away. The distressing incident unfolded with Mr. Casey receiving CPR on the floor of the waiting room before being pronounced dead in an adjacent room.
Expressing the harrowing image of his father in distress, Thomas Jr noted the lack of compassion and urgency in the hospital’s response. The circumstances surrounding Mr. Casey’s care are under scrutiny by NHS Mid and South Essex, prompting a meeting with the deceased’s family. Chelmsford MP Marie Goldman has condemned the incident as deeply troubling and raised concerns about patient safety measures.
Thomas Jr revealed that his father, known for his philanthropic nature, had previously visited Basildon Hospital, where he endured a lengthy wait before leaving. Suspicions of discrimination surfaced as Thomas Jr speculated that his family faced bias due to their traveler community background. NHS Mid and South Essex has been approached for comment by the Mirror.
Christine Blanshard, the chief medical officer at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, expressed condolences to the bereaved family and assured an investigation into the care provided to Mr. Casey. Plans to address the family’s grievances through a meeting were also announced by the hospital authority.
