Trump Suggests Defense Secretary Pushed for Iran Attack

Date:

Donald Trump appeared to shift the responsibility for the Middle East conflict onto his Secretary of Defense during an awkward exchange. The President implied that it was Pete Hegseth who initially proposed the idea of attacking Iran.

Speaking at a conference in Tennessee, Trump mentioned reaching out to advisors about the Middle East situation and Iran’s history of supporting terrorism and pursuing nuclear weapons. Turning to Hegseth, Trump credited him with advocating for military action against Iran to prevent them from obtaining nuclear capabilities.

Hegseth’s reaction to Trump’s comments appeared uneasy as the President continued to discuss ongoing negotiations with Iran to bring about a resolution to the conflict. Trump expressed optimism about the talks, stating that there was a good chance for a peaceful outcome.

This development comes as Trump entered the fourth week of the conflict with Iran, hinting at a potential de-escalation of military operations. While this news boosted market confidence, Iranian officials dismissed it as a tactic to prolong the conflict and economic strain globally.

The conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran escalated on February 28 with missile strikes targeting Iranian leaders, including the Supreme Leader. Despite facing multiple attacks, the Iranian regime remains in power and has disrupted shipping routes while carrying out retaliatory drone strikes.

Trump recently extended a deadline for Iran to allow shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, citing positive discussions as the reason for the delay. The decision averted immediate military actions that could have had devastating consequences for the region’s infrastructure and population.

However, conflicting reports emerged regarding the alleged talks between Trump and Iran, as Iranian officials denied engaging in any negotiations with the United States.
