A video capturing Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers detaining two individuals at San Francisco International Airport has sparked concern. The incident took place as federal agents were deployed to assist with the situation at TSA security checkpoints.
In the distressing footage, multiple agents are seen apprehending a woman who is visibly upset and crying on the floor. The woman was handcuffed while her tearful daughter looked on in distress.
During the arrest, the woman exclaimed, “This is un-American.” Meanwhile, another person filming the incident demanded the officers’ badge numbers and names.
The Department of Homeland Security accused the woman of resisting arrest. The plainclothes men involved in the apprehension did not display any clear identification as ICE officers in the viral video.
The identities of the woman and child in the video remain undisclosed. Following the woman’s handcuffing, federal agents struggled to lift her off the ground.
ICE agents were deployed to airports in 11 U.S. cities, including Atlanta, Chicago, and New York City, to aid in passenger screening at security checkpoints. However, SFO was not initially listed for ICE deployment, as the airport relies on contract workers for TSA security.
DHS confirmed that ICE had detained two individuals in San Francisco with an outstanding removal order since 2019. Efforts are being made to repatriate the family to Guatemala.
The airport spokesperson described the arrests as an isolated incident, stating that there are no indications of broader enforcement actions at SFO. Airport operations continued without disruption, and flights were unaffected by the incident.
President Trump stated that ICE agents would continue enforcing immigration laws at airports, emphasizing their role in assisting with arrests. White House Border Czar Tom Homan reiterated that agents would not overlook illegal activities while supporting TSA personnel.
Homan emphasized the importance of maintaining security and efficiency at airports while addressing heightened security concerns globally.ICE agents are committed to upholding the law and enhancing airport security to expedite passenger processing.
