Dash Crofts, one half of the renowned American soft rock duo Seals and Crofts, known for their hit songs like Summer Breeze, has passed away at the age of 85. The musician, born in Texas as Darrell “Dash” Crofts, gained fame for tracks such as Diamond Girl and Get Closer, which he performed with Jimmy Seals.
The news of Crofts’ passing was shared by his producer Louie Shelton on March 26 through a Facebook post. Shelton expressed his sadness and offered condolences to Crofts’ family and fans. According to TMZ, Crofts’ family confirmed that he passed away due to complications from heart surgery.
Remembered as a “true music legend,” Crofts was praised for his contribution to timeless music. US country singer Pauline Reese paid tribute to him, highlighting his kindness, humility, and soulful nature. Crofts’ musical partner, James “Jimmy” Seals, passed away in 2022 at the age of 80. Seals and Crofts formed in the late 1960s and reunited several times to produce music, including their final album Traces in 2004.
Apart from his music career, Crofts released a solo album titled Today in 1998 and spent time working on a farm in Texas with horses. He was married to Billie Lee Day, and they lived in Mexico, Australia, and Nashville, raising their daughters Amelia and Lua, both of whom pursued careers in music.
Amelia, part of the group the Humming Birds, carries on the musical legacy alongside Juliet Crossley, Jimmy’s daughter, and Genevieve Dozier, the daughter of Seals and Crofts’ engineer Joey Brogan. The impact of Seals and Crofts’ music continues to resonate, bringing a sense of peace to listeners worldwide.
