“US Deploying £9.5B Aircraft Carrier to the Middle East”

Date:

The construction of the world’s largest aircraft carrier came at a hefty price tag of £9.5 billion, measuring the length of three football fields. Recently, US President Donald Trump orchestrated the deployment of this colossal vessel to the Middle East as a display of power towards Iran.

This carrier, commissioned in 2013 and the most modern in the US fleet, was directed to depart from the Caribbean after participating in the mission to apprehend Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro earlier in 2026.

Expected to reach the Arabian Sea near Iran in approximately two weeks, the carrier will rendezvous with the USS Abraham Lincoln. This strategic move by Trump followed recent developments in his $10 billion defamation lawsuit against the BBC.

Named after the 38th US President, the USS Gerald R Ford boasts a massive full displacement of 100 tonnes and stretches approximately 1,106 feet (337 meters) in length – surpassing the expanse of three football fields.

Equipped with two nuclear reactors, the carrier can achieve speeds up to around 34mph despite its immense size, manned by a crew of roughly 4,500 individuals.

Engineered to function for 50 years without needing to refuel its nuclear reactors, the USS Gerald R Ford enhances the USA’s capability for sustained intensive operations in the region.

This decision comes in the wake of reports indicating a shift at the White House regarding military actions due to uncertainties about their effectiveness. Additionally, concerns were raised about Trump’s potential utilization of unconventional methods, like ‘weaponizing’ a doorbell, as suggested by a former adviser.

Amazon recently introduced a new AI feature, Search Party, for their popular Ring doorbell, purportedly aimed at locating lost pets through facial recognition technology. However, critics argue that this feature could be exploited for tracking humans, sparking debates on civil liberties, particularly amidst heightened enforcement by ICE.

Discussing the implications, Pablo O’Hana highlighted the surveillance impact on voter behavior, emphasizing the potential influence over democratic processes rather than direct election interference.

Addressing concerns about Trump’s possible misuse of such technology for political gains, O’Hana cautioned against the chilling effect of surveillance on public engagement and democratic participation, stressing the detrimental effects on civic trust and freedom.
