A former Conservative justice minister recently proposed the legalization of all drugs following his admission to four drug-related charges, including possession of crystal methamphetamine. Crispin Blunt stated that his involvement in drug-fueled chemsex gatherings was to better inform governmental drug policies. During a 2023 police raid at his residence, authorities discovered various substances such as GBL, cannabis, methamphetamine, and methylamphetamine, commonly referred to as crystal meth.
Blunt criticized his former colleagues, revealing details about hosting parties where drugs were accessible. He mentioned in court that his ex-dealer had extorted him and falsely accused him and his partner of sexual assault. Expressing his dissatisfaction, Blunt argued that the global prohibition of narcotics was a catastrophic oversight, a viewpoint he solidified during his time in government.
The ex-MP for Reigate, who served in Parliament from 1997 to 2024, criticized politicians for oversimplifying the stance on drugs without considering the severe repercussions. Blunt emphasized that this approach allowed politicians to maintain a false sense of moral superiority. He shared his personal encounters to advocate for reforms in drug policies, recounting an incident involving a builder he befriended at one of his events, which led to blackmail allegations.
Blunt’s legal case took a turn when he decided to settle out of court due to the impact on his family. He linked his support for Palestine to the background of the proceedings, accusing former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak of involvement in war crimes. Deputy Chief Magistrate Tan Ikram imposed a £1,200 fine on Blunt, highlighting the contradiction between his views on drug prohibition and his violation of enacted laws, which risked undermining public trust in lawmakers.
The court ordered Blunt to pay additional charges totaling £680. Following the raid on his home in Horley, Surrey, and subsequent loss of the Tory party membership, Blunt resigned from his MP position during the 2024 general election. Prosecutors noted Blunt’s demeanor during the raid as calm and cooperative, highlighting the discovery of various drugs and drug-related items in his possession.
Blunt, who has a daughter and son, publicly disclosed his homosexuality in 2010 after announcing his separation from his wife.
