“Passenger Falls Ill Mid-Flight: Emergency Landing in Iceland”

Date:

A passenger aircraft en route to a hot vacation spot had to perform an emergency landing in Iceland due to a passenger falling ill suddenly. The KLM Royal Dutch Airlines flight, bound for Mexico City, took off from Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS) at 1:45 pm and was flying over Scotland and the Atlantic before diverting to Iceland.

Approximately two hours into the flight, the flight crew initiated a ‘Squawk 7700’ code, signaling an in-flight emergency to air traffic control. The pilot requested a diversion to Keflavik International Airport (KEF) citing a passenger requiring urgent medical assistance.

The aircraft, a KLM Dreamliner, landed safely at Keflavik on Runway 1, where medical services met the plane to assist the ill passenger who was then taken to a nearby hospital. The passenger’s current condition remains unknown.

Following the medical assistance, the plane was refueled on the tarmac before continuing its journey to Mexico City at around 5:45 pm and eventually landing without any further incidents.

This incident follows similar emergency landings, including a Ryanair flight diverting to Madrid due to fuel issues and an EasyJet plane making an emergency landing in Edinburgh following mechanical problems.
