A fatal stabbing incident in New South Wales (NSW) has resulted in one fatality and left two individuals in critical condition, according to authorities.
The NSW police reported that three individuals were attacked with a knife in a location west of Sydney, Australia, on Tuesday, February 17. Emergency responders were alerted to the stabbing incident in Merrylands, situated approximately 30 kilometers away from the Sydney city center, around 10am.
Officers from the Cumberland Police Area Command arrived at the scene and were informed that a man had stabbed multiple victims before fleeing on foot.
Paramedics from NSW Ambulance provided urgent medical attention to the three injured individuals.
A spokesperson for the New South Wales Police stated, “The identity of the deceased individual has not been confirmed yet.
“Law enforcement has secured the area as a crime scene and launched an investigation.
“Following preliminary inquiries, a suspect was apprehended on Smythe Street, Merrylands, and is currently detained at Granville Police Station.
“As the investigation progresses, individuals with relevant information are urged to contact the Cumberland Police Area Command or Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000.”
