A man’s body was partially consumed by his three pit bulls after he collapsed and passed away in his own residence.
The unsettling discovery occurred when Salvatore Allegrucci’s concerned niece, who knew him as Tore, raised the alarm upon receiving no response from him. Authorities were alerted, and upon entering the residence, they found the lifeless 52-year-old man on the floor, partially eaten.
Upon arrival, emergency responders noticed a strong and enduring smell emanating from inside the apartment, prompting them to enter forcibly. Salvatore was discovered deceased in the primary room of his flat situated in the village of Rigali, a part of Gualdo Tadino in the central Italy province of Perugia.
Carabinieri officers, firefighters, and veterinary services were present on February 15. Initial investigations suggest that Salvatore likely died of natural causes, possibly due to a sudden illness. It is estimated that he had been deceased for a minimum of four days before being found.
Three pit bulls were discovered confined inside the apartment without access to food or water, and they had begun eating their owner’s body. Responding officers noted the dogs’ agitation when emergency personnel entered the premises.
A physician on duty alerted the prosecutor on-call at the Court of Perugia, who conducted an initial external examination. A comprehensive post-mortem has been ordered by the magistrate to determine the precise cause and time of death.
The three dogs have been seized and relocated to a kennel under the supervision of the local health authority’s veterinary service for health and legal evaluations. Authorities confirmed that Salvatore resided alone in the apartment complex.
The investigation is ongoing pending the outcome of the autopsy.
