“UK Couple Sentenced to 10 Years in Iran: Family Pleads for Release”

Date:

A couple from the UK detained in a harsh prison abroad has received a 10-year sentence, according to their relatives. Lindsay and Craig Foreman, hailing from East Sussex, were apprehended in Iran in January 2025 while on a global motorcycle expedition. Accused of espionage, they are currently held in Tehran’s Evin prison, with their family expressing grave concerns about their well-being.

Their son, Joe Bennett, has urged swift action from the British government to secure their release, emphasizing their innocence. The UK Foreign Secretary strongly condemned the 10-year prison term as unjustifiable, vowing relentless efforts to bring the Foremans back home safely.

Mr. Bennett highlighted the lack of transparency in the judicial process, revealing that his parents were sentenced after a brief trial where they were denied the opportunity to defend themselves. He emphasized their consistent denial of the espionage charges and called for decisive action from the UK authorities to secure their freedom.

Former detainee Anoosheh Ashoori and activist Richard Ratcliffe, who campaigned for the release of his wife from Iran, joined forces with Mr. Bennett to petition the UK government for more decisive action. Craig Foreman, ahead of his impending court appearance, pleaded for assistance, describing the emotional and physical toll of their confinement.

The couple, set to face court proceedings in Tehran soon, find solace in their infrequent meetings, with Craig expressing love and dedication to his wife as the driving force behind their resilience.
