A tragic incident occurred in a playground where a 10-year-old girl, Lorrayne Rabelo Fernandes, lost her life when a pergola collapsed on her and four other children. The collapse resulted in Lorrayne suffering a cardiac arrest and being pronounced dead at the scene. The children were playing in an outdoor area when the wooden beams suddenly fell, trapping all five kids under its weight. The heartbreaking event took place at the Ville Vitoria condominium in Vespasiano, Brazil, on February 17.
Emergency response teams, including fire crews, medical personnel, and military police, rushed to the scene to assist after the collapse. Despite efforts from emergency responders and bystanders to rescue Lorrayne, she could not be saved. Additionally, Lorrayne’s seven-year-old brother sustained a head injury that needed stitches, one boy was hospitalized with pelvic injuries and suspected spinal trauma, and two girls suffered minor injuries.
Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the pergola collapse, as confirmed by the Civil Police of Minas Gerais. Lorrayne was laid to rest on February 18 at the Parque da Ressurreicao Cemetery in Vespasiano.
