“Cooper Urges Inclusion of Lebanon in Ceasefire Deal”

Date:

Yvette Cooper expressed deep worry over the increased Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon and emphasized the urgent need for Lebanon to be included in a regional ceasefire agreement. The Foreign Secretary criticized Israel’s ongoing bombardment of Lebanon, stating that it was the wrong approach as cracks in the ceasefire began to show.

Following confusion surrounding the Israel-Hezbollah conflict, with differing claims on ceasefire terms, Israel launched numerous attacks on Hezbollah targets in Beirut, while Iran threatened ships in the Strait of Hormuz. Cooper stressed the importance of including Lebanon in the ceasefire to halt hostilities in the region for the security of Israel and the broader Middle East.

Cooper also stressed the necessity for toll-free shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, asserting that Iran should not impose tolls on this critical international transit route. World leaders, including Keir Starmer, called for an end to Israel’s assault on Lebanon and urged for a permanent US-Iran ceasefire. French President Emmanuel Macron strongly condemned Israel’s indiscriminate strikes in Lebanon, while US Vice President JD Vance clarified a misunderstanding regarding Lebanon’s inclusion in the ceasefire.

Despite the confusion, Pakistani PM Shehbaz Sharif confirmed an immediate ceasefire agreement covering all regions, including Lebanon. The ceasefire deal between the US and Iran was finalized in the eleventh hour by former President Trump, averting a potential humanitarian crisis linked to the Strait of Hormuz blockade by Iran.
