A close friend of a couple who tragically lost their lives, along with their two sons, in an apparent murder-suicide, has offered insights into what might have driven the family to such a horrific act.
Jarrod Clune, 50, and Maiwenna Goasdoue, 49, were discovered deceased alongside their sons Leon, 16, and Otis, 14, at their residence in Mosman Park, Perth, Australia. The authorities were alerted by a caregiver for the boys, both of whom had non-verbal autism, who couldn’t reach the family.
It is believed that Mr. Clune and Mrs. Goasdoue took the lives of their children before taking their own. A family friend named Nedra revealed that the family often felt isolated and lacked support while caring for their special needs sons. Nedra mentioned the challenges they faced in accessing necessary services and the constant struggle for support.
The police, investigating the incident where the bodies were found in different parts of the house, have not disclosed the cause of death. However, they stated that there were no signs of violence, and no weapons were involved.
Jessica Securo, Detective Acting Inspector for Western Australia Police, confirmed that there were no previous reports of family violence involving the family. She described the event as a tragic loss that would impact the entire community.
Both boys had significant health issues, and the family had reportedly lost government funding for one of their disabilities. Rosemary Kayess, Australia’s Disability Discrimination Commissioner, cautioned against using the children’s special needs as a justification for the tragedy, emphasizing that disability should never justify such violence.
