Iran’s President Rejects US Demand, Urges Diplomacy

Date:

In a defiant response to the United States, the President of Iran dismissed the demand for an unconditional surrender as a futile wish that will never materialize. Amid escalating conflicts across the Middle East, Masoud Pezeshkian delivered a prerecorded speech on state television, expressing regret for Iranian strikes on neighboring countries and attributing them to internal confusion within the armed forces.

Pezeshkian acknowledged the disruption caused by the killing of Iran’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, and other senior officials, leading to a breakdown in command structures and a perceived loss of control in recent events. The president revealed that the country’s leadership council had been in communication with the armed forces regarding the attacks.

Apologizing to the neighboring countries targeted by Iran, Pezeshkian emphasized the need for diplomatic solutions moving forward, urging restraint in attacking or launching missiles unless under direct threat. Meanwhile, Iranian attacks hit several Gulf states, including Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, with Dubai activating air defense systems in response to explosions heard across the city.

The conflict showed no signs of abating as the US approved a substantial arms sale to Israel, rejecting negotiations with Iran unless it surrenders unconditionally. Both the US and Israel intensified their strikes on Iran, targeting military assets, leadership figures, and the nuclear program. The shifting objectives and timelines of the war reflected varying strategies, including regime change or internal leadership shifts within Iran.

Casualties mounted on all sides, with over 1,230 deaths in Iran, more than 200 in Lebanon, and a dozen in Israel. Additionally, six US troops lost their lives in the conflict. The widening scope of the conflict was evident as Iranian attacks reached Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, prompting defensive actions to protect critical infrastructure and military installations.

The Revolutionary Guard, Iran’s paramilitary force, took a central role in the conflict under the supreme leader’s command. However, the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in an Israeli airstrike at the war’s outset added complexity to the situation. Hezbollah, an Iranian-backed group, engaged in clashes with Israeli forces in eastern Lebanon, resulting in civilian casualties and significant damage.

Lebanon bore the brunt of Israeli airstrikes, with numerous casualties reported since the conflict escalated. The ongoing violence underscored the humanitarian crisis unfolding in the region, with civilian populations caught in the crossfire of military operations.
