“Nightclub Blast Injures Dozens in Peru, Motive Unclear”

Date:

An explosion at a nightclub in Peru has resulted in over 30 people sustaining injuries, including several teenagers, officials confirmed. The incident occurred at the Dali nightclub in Trujillo, Peru, with 33 individuals affected by the blast, five of whom are in critical condition following the attack on Saturday night.

The local Emergency Operations Centre reported the explosion in the early hours, raising concerns about the recent surge in violence and crime in the South American nation. The perpetuators behind the attack remain unidentified, and the motive behind the incident remains unknown.

According to Gerardo Florián Gómez, the executive director of the Trujillo Health Network, at least five of the injured individuals are in serious condition, with some undergoing surgery for amputations and shrapnel wounds. Among the victims are three minors, including a 16-year-old and two 17-year-olds.

Eyewitness Fiorella Mantilla described the chaotic scene, noting that she suffered glass injuries during the explosion, likening the sound to a sudden shutdown of the sound system at the club. This incident comes shortly after another explosion damaged homes in the same city but caused no casualties.

The La Libertad region, known for its gold mines, has been affected by extortion and illegal mining activities. Official records show a high number of explosions in the region, with many linked to criminal organizations like Los Pulpos, which operate across multiple countries, including Chile.

Previous incidents in Trujillo, such as a blast in a prosecutor’s office and multiple home explosions, highlight the ongoing security challenges in the region. Authorities attribute these events to organized crime groups engaging in extortion schemes, emphasizing the need for heightened security measures to combat such criminal activities.
