A significant update has been provided by the Foreign Office regarding British citizens stranded amidst the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Numerous British nationals are eager to return home due to the crisis in the region, where Iran has been launching missiles at neighboring countries. Dubai and other locations in the United Arab Emirates are popular destinations for many British individuals either residing there, vacationing, or transiting during connecting flights.
The conflict began ten days ago with US-Israeli missile strikes on Iran, resulting in the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. The UK government’s repatriation efforts continue, with the Foreign Office reporting that 37,000 people have been brought back to the UK.
According to the latest update, more than 37,000 British nationals have returned to the UK since March 1. Three charter flights have departed from Oman and landed in the UK, with the most recent flight arriving earlier today. The UK government has organized a flight out of Dubai set to depart later today, and on Sunday, 30 flights left the region carrying over 7,000 British citizens – the largest influx of Brits in a single day since the crisis began.
Sir Keir Starmer emphasized the UK’s commitment to ensuring the safety of British citizens, noting the concerns of those worried about their loved ones. He mentioned the presence of support staff on the ground, government-provided flights facilitating returns, and the active role of the armed forces in defending allies and national interests across the region.
