The identity of a man who was fatally stabbed in a residential area has been disclosed.
Authorities responded to an urgent call on Southwick Road in Northern Moor, Wythenshawe, around 11:35 pm on Thursday, following reports of a severely injured individual.
Regrettably, the man, in his twenties, was declared deceased at the scene and has been identified as Drew McCormick. Tributes portray him as a jovial, affectionate, and compassionate young man.
According to Greater Manchester Police, a 19-year-old suspect has been apprehended on suspicion of murder and is currently under interrogation. The police urge anyone with relevant information to come forward.
A close friend of Drew, Daniel Keating, paid tribute, stating: “He was the heart and soul of any gathering. He was unapologetically himself. There will never be another like him. From his school days to adulthood, he remained unchanged. I will forever miss you, brother. I cherish you.”
Shakira Jesse also expressed her sentiments, saying: “Drew was a humorous, affectionate, caring young man. We used to go live on TikTok together almost every night. He stood out as one of the most engaging personalities there. His infectious laughter still resonates in my mind.”
Following the incident, two tents have been erected within the cordon, and forensic specialists have been actively present throughout the day.
A local resident expressed shock upon encountering the police tent in the morning, indicating a grim realization of a tragic event. Another resident nearby voiced their astonishment at the scene, highlighting feelings of fear and disbelief.
Witnesses observed a vehicle being removed from the restricted area earlier in the day, transported on a lorry for further examination.
A police spokesperson stated: “At approximately 11:35 pm on Thursday, February 6, 2026, we received a distress call regarding a severely injured man on Southwick Road in Northern Moor, Wythenshawe.
“Upon arrival, officers discovered a man in his twenties who tragically passed away at the scene. A 19-year-old suspect has been detained on suspicion of murder and is currently detained for questioning.
