Allegedly, this situation has prompted the regime to disrupt internet services in central Moscow, particularly around key security and military sites suspected of involvement in a plot against Putin.
An outlet connected to the secret services, Channel VChK-OGPU, has broadcasted unverified claims suggesting that Shoigu’s circle is conspiring against Putin. Shoigu, formerly the defense minister overseeing operations in Ukraine, was removed from his position in May 2024 and appointed as the Kremlin security council secretary.
Once allies, Putin and Shoigu, who used to vacation together in Siberia, have seen their relationship deteriorate. Several of Shoigu’s associates have been removed, detained, or imprisoned on corruption charges. The most recent development involves the arrest of ex-deputy defense minister Ruslan Tsalikov on suspicion of amassing a significant fortune through illicit means.
There are speculations that Shoigu himself may be targeted next for removal and detention, although he reportedly maintains support within the defense ministry, secret services, and other Russian power structures. Notably, Shoigu has not been publicly seen or heard from since March 5, coinciding with the start of communication disruptions in Moscow.
