A mother stabbed her tenant in response to him allegedly engaging in inappropriate behavior in front of her young children. Genaro Benjamin Diaz, a retiree, was discovered with multiple stab wounds in Buenos Aires, Argentina, last Friday.
Diaz, aged 68, had recently become a tenant at Magali Daniela Ojeda’s residence. Ojeda, aged 28, had decided to rent out a room in her home on 523rd street to generate income while she was unemployed.
Authorities were alerted on Friday when Diaz was found injured in the Tolosa area of the La Plata district. He was swiftly taken to San Roque Regional Hospital and remains in a serious condition.
Following the incident, Ojeda was arrested, and the case was handed over to Functional Instruction Unit 15 under prosecutor María Cecilia Corfield’s supervision. Initially suspected as an attempted homicide, Ojeda explained that she acted out of maternal instinct to protect her children from possible harm.
Ojeda witnessed the tenant engaging in inappropriate conduct in front of her nine-year-old daughter and seven-year-old son, leading her to take action. Consequently, the prosecution decided not to press charges against Ojeda, and she was released. Her lawyers argued for the case to be closed, highlighting her lack of criminal record and cooperation with the investigation.
The prosecutor acknowledged Ojeda’s actions as preventive, aiming to avert a more severe outcome. While an inquiry into the matter is ongoing, Ojeda remains under investigation, with a restraining order issued against the tenant and his family.
Ojeda’s defense team, led by Juan Manuel Fontana and Isidro Dignian, will seek to have the case dismissed, claiming that her actions were solely to protect her children’s well-being.
