A tragic incident unfolded on the coast of Australia, where a married British couple in their 60s drowned while visiting family. The unfortunate event took place on the NSW South Coast on March 11.
Emergency services rushed to Shellharbour Beach at Shell Cove, located two hours south of Sydney, after receiving reports of two swimmers in distress. Beachgoers managed to bring the 66-year-old man and 64-year-old woman to shore, where off-duty nurses performed CPR until paramedics arrived.
Despite efforts from paramedics, the couple could not be revived and passed away at the scene. Family members of the couple were present during the incident. NSW Police praised the assistance provided by two off-duty female nurses and a young male individual.
Expressing condolences, a police spokesperson described the incident as tragic, extending sympathies to the family. A report will be prepared for the coroner to investigate the circumstances further.
