Gunshots Reported on Quiet Durham Street, Targeted Incident Suspected

Date:

Police responded to a disturbance on a typically quiet residential street today following reports of gunshots fired in a nearby home, which authorities believe was a targeted incident. An investigation is ongoing after receiving information that a firearm was discharged at a residence on the Newton Hall housing estate in Durham, according to law enforcement officials.

Fortunately, two individuals inside the house at the time were unharmed and have been safeguarded by police. The incident prompted a significant police presence on Featherstone Road, with a section of the area cordoned off as investigators worked at the scene throughout the day on Friday, as reported by Chronicle Live.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Fuller, leading the inquiry, emphasized the community’s likely concern and alarm due to the incident. He stated that based on initial inquiries, it appears to be a targeted attack, and additional neighborhood patrols will be deployed to reassure local residents.

Fuller urged anyone with relevant information to come forward to the authorities or anonymously to Crimestoppers. Additionally, individuals with dashcam footage from the Featherstone Drive area during the incident are encouraged to contact the police.

Those with information are requested to reach out to Durham Constabulary at 101, quoting incident number 58 of February 6, or through online channels. Alternatively, tips can be shared anonymously with Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111 or via their website.
