A grieving mother has shared the harrowing experience of discovering her daughter’s charred body after she tragically died inside a Walmart oven.
The body of 19-year-old Gursimran Kaur was found inside a walk-in oven in the Walmart Bakery department in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada on October 19, 2024. Mandip Kaur, who also worked in the department with her daughter, made the distressing discovery after searching for her missing daughter for about an hour.
Mandip recounted her shock at finding her daughter in the oven, describing her inability to comprehend the situation. Despite seeking help from other employees, she felt dismissed, believing her daughter may have been assisting someone else in the large superstore.
She attempted to contact her daughter but was unsuccessful, noticing a dark liquid resembling tar seeping from the commercial oven. The oven, reaching temperatures of up to 400 degrees, is typically used for baking frozen bread, and it was later revealed that the liquid came from Gursimran’s body.
Upon locating her daughter’s severely burned body, Mandip contacted Halifax Regional Police, who responded to reports of a woman trapped inside the bakery oven. While officers arrived and removed Gursimran’s body from the oven, she was unfortunately already deceased.
Initially treated as a potential homicide, the investigation into Gursimran’s death was later deemed non-suspicious after a month. Mandip vehemently denied any suggestions that her daughter had taken her own life, emphasizing Gursimran’s contentment.
A spokesperson for Walmart Canada expressed support for their employees during the tragic event, offering access to virtual care and grief counseling services. The mother and daughter had relocated from India to Canada approximately two years before the heartbreaking incident.
