President Donald Trump has stated that he was informed that Iran’s new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, may not be alive, suggesting that if he is alive, he should surrender.
This claim arose during a phone conversation with NBC News on Saturday following Khamenei’s absence from a scheduled appearance on Thursday, where he was expected to address the nation as its new leader.
Trump expressed uncertainty about Khamenei’s status, mentioning that there is no evidence of his presence. He added that if Khamenei is indeed alive, he should act wisely for his country’s benefit and surrender.
A source from Tehran reported that Khamenei, aged 56, allegedly suffered severe injuries, including the loss of a leg and abdominal or liver damage, possibly due to a strike by the U.S. or Israel.
The source shared detailed information about Khamenei’s medical condition, treatment, and location, stating that he is receiving medical care at Sina University Hospital, where a secure area has been established.
While Iranian state media acknowledged Khamenei’s injuries, the claims made by the source cannot be verified independently due in part to Iran’s ongoing internet restrictions. Türkiye’s foreign minister, Hakan Fidan, mentioned in an interview with the Associated Press that although the extent of Khamenei’s injuries is unknown, he is confirmed to be alive and operational.
