A British woman, Lucy Harrison, aged 23, was tragically killed by her father during a visit to his residence in Texas, as revealed in an inquest today. Lucy and her boyfriend, Sam Littler, were staying at her father’s home in Prosper, Texas, when she was fatally shot from a distance described as “medium range.” The couple had flown from Heathrow airport to the United States on December 28 for a vacation after recently purchasing their first home together and celebrating Christmas with family.
The shooting took place in her father Kris Harrison’s home in Prosper, with witnesses present when the police arrived at the scene. Despite the investigation and findings that Lucy was shot in the chest by someone else, it was reported that no alcohol or drugs were found in her system. A grand jury decided on June 10 of the previous year that no charges would be brought against anyone regarding her death.
The inquest held at Cheshire Coroner’s Court revealed that Lucy was shot by her father, who claimed no one else was present at the time of the incident. During the proceedings, the senior coroner, Jacqueline Devonish, faced arguments from Mr. Harrison’s counsel, Ana Samuel, who raised concerns about potential bias and lack of disclosure.
Ms. Norris, representing Lucy’s mother, countered the claims, stating that Mr. Harrison had ample time to address any issues and questioning the timing of the disclosure request. The coroner declined the recusal request, emphasizing the importance of Mr. Harrison’s statement in the investigation. It was noted that Ms. Devonish had no personal relationship with the individuals involved and therefore saw no reason to step down from her role.
Lucy, a Manchester Metropolitan University graduate with a first-class degree in fashion buying and merchandising, had secured a position at Boohoo as a buyer’s admin assistant, fulfilling her dream job. Her mother and boyfriend, Sam Littler, who accompanied her to Texas, were present during the legal proceedings and are expected to provide evidence later in the day.
