“UK Snowfall Forecast: Chances in South, Heavy Rain in North”

Date:

Weather experts from BBC Weather are anticipating the possibility of snowfall across various regions of the UK in the coming week, with chances of snow even in the southern areas before the weekend arrives.

In the forecast for the upcoming day, BBC Weather projects extended periods of rain moving towards the northern parts of the UK. Scotland is expected to experience heavy rain and hill snow, while the southern regions should brace for initially bright conditions followed by showery rain later in the day.

Thursday’s weather outlook includes predictions of scattered rain along with brighter conditions in the far north. There is also a possibility of wintry showers developing in coastal areas during the day.

Looking ahead to Friday, BBC Weather indicates that snow could impact southern hills, as well as the north and east coastlines. The forecast highlights the likelihood of rain and hill snow in the southern half at the beginning of the day, with snow showers advancing towards the north and east coasts later.

As Saturday, Valentine’s Day, approaches, BBC Weather foresees a crisp and bright day for many areas, although wintry showers may persist along the eastern coasts.

On Sunday, BBC Weather suggests the arrival of a new frontal system from the Atlantic, expected to bring milder air and rain across the UK, possibly preceded by sleet and snow in higher elevated regions, primarily in the northern parts.

The Met Office’s outlook for the remainder of the week also points towards impending snowfall in certain areas. Tomorrow’s weather is projected to remain predominantly cloudy with sporadic rain, with the north experiencing windy and cold conditions while the south enjoys milder temperatures.

From Thursday to Saturday, the Met Office anticipates unsettled weather patterns with further outbreaks of rain, transitioning to colder conditions from Friday with a likelihood of snow showers, especially in the north, followed by dry, cold, and sunny conditions on Saturday.

BBC Weather experts have raised concerns about potential flooding in parts of the country in the upcoming week. The forecast for February 16 to 22 indicates a temporary widespread cold spell, with a shift towards milder conditions due to changing pressure systems.

The forecast suggests that southern regions of the UK may experience milder air due to south-westerly wind flows, leading to wet and windy weather periods with above-average rainfall, potentially increasing the risk of local flooding. Additionally, snowfall over higher ground in northern areas could occur on the colder edges of rain bands.

Furthermore, the forecast hints at the possibility of snow, with indications of high pressure building over the eastern Atlantic, resulting in intermittent brighter but colder intervals with wintry showers carried by north to north-westerly winds.
