A notorious serial killer known for deriving perverse pleasure from handling his victims’ internal organs once held a victim’s heart in his hands after her death. Frank Gust, also called “The Rhine-Ruhr Ripper” due to his gruesome mutilations resembling Jack the Ripper’s crimes, had a disturbing childhood incident that shaped his dark path.
In a recent episode of the Bizarre Bazaar True Crime Podcast, Gust’s transformation began at around nine years old when he bought a guinea pig but faced rejection from his family. Despite his pleas, his grandmother callously dismissed the pet as a “filthy rodent,” triggering a disturbing chain of events leading to years of violence and murder.
Driven by a growing obsession with cruelty, Gust escalated from torturing animals to more heinous acts. His descent into depravity culminated in the brutal murder of Catherine Thompson, a hitchhiker he lured into a secluded area before savagely killing and desecrating her body. Gust’s sickening rituals extended to subsequent victims, including sex workers like Svenja Dittmer-el-Din and Sandra Aus der Wiesche.
Despite his horrific crimes, Gust showed no remorse and even planned further atrocities. His chilling mindset, viewing women as objects for torture and slaughter, was revealed during psychological assessments. Remarkably, Gust is set for release in 2026, a decision raising concerns about public safety given his dark and dangerous history.
