The incident occurred during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner at the Washington Hilton, where Pearlman was performing for Trump, First Lady Melania, and press secretary Karoline Leavitt.
In a post on Instagram following the event, Pearlman described the moment when a gunman opened fire, expressing his initial fear of a bomb going off. He recounted being just a few feet away from Trump during what he described as the most frightening moment of his life.
The gunman, identified as Cole Tomas Allen, fired shots, injuring a Secret Service agent who was wearing a bulletproof vest. The Secret Service swiftly intervened, preventing Allen from entering the ballroom where the President and First Lady were present. Trump and Melania were quickly escorted to safety, with the President forced to the ground at one point.
Pearlman recalled the chaos and uncertainty that ensued after the incident, with backstage confusion and concern for Trump’s well-being. He expressed gratitude for the professionalism of the Secret Service in ensuring everyone’s safety.
Reflecting on the intense moment, Pearlman recounted the fear he felt as he and Trump made eye contact, unsure of what was happening. Despite the initial panic, he noted the swift and decisive action taken by the Secret Service in protecting everyone present.
