Two teenagers tragically lost their lives in a devastating collision involving a bus and a motorbike, causing profound distress within the local community.
The incident occurred in Sydney, Australia, where the boys, aged 14 and 15, were fatally injured. The NSW Police responded to the scene at Liverpool Parramatta T-way, Bossley Park on Monday, March 23, around 7.10 pm.
The victims were identified as William Drake, 15, and Adrian Lai, 14, by Nine News. Despite receiving treatment from paramedics, both teenagers succumbed to their injuries at the crash site.
Fortunately, the 48-year-old bus driver emerged unharmed and was taken to the hospital for mandatory testing. The passengers onboard the bus at the time of the accident also escaped without injuries.
Witnesses described the harrowing scene, with one stating, “I saw this little kid get hit by a big bus, we were just going through. We saw the bus doing a [U-turn], and this guy went straight under the bus.”
In the aftermath of the collision on the notorious accident-prone road, local schoolchildren and residents paid tribute to the victims. Fairfield City Council Mayor, Frank Carbone, expressed deep sorrow, describing the community as “very sad and distraught.”
He emphasized the tragic nature of the accident, noting, “These are members of our community, so it’s broken our heart.” Despite mixed emotions, including sympathy for the bus driver and passengers, Carbone highlighted previous safety concerns raised with the New South Wales government.
