A detective, Andrew Fearon, is taking legal action against North Wales Police, alleging a cover-up of misconduct by his former fiancée and colleague, Rebecca Hutt. Fearon is seeking £344,000 in damages, citing personal injury and loss of earnings. He claims that the force’s failure to investigate Hutt’s behavior impartially led to severe psychiatric injury and financial hardship.
In 2018, Fearon, engaged to Hutt and both serving as detective constables, accused Hutt of cheating with another colleague, Detective Constable Shaun Parry. Fearon filed a complaint stating that the relationship took place at the police station. The legal filings suggest Parry was a “known sexual predator” and assert that the force protected him from discipline.
Despite Fearon’s complaint, Parry was only transferred to a different station. He was later dismissed for unrelated inappropriate behavior with another colleague. Fearon, who took stress leave, accused Hutt of coercive control, domestic violence, and fraud.
An investigation by Detective Superintendent Steve Williams recommended no further action against Hutt, but court documents allege Williams was in a relationship with Hutt while investigating her. Fearon claims Williams influenced the investigation outcome in favor of Hutt. Williams and Hutt later married.
Fearon reported the relationship and expressed intent to arrest the colleague, prompting the force to deactivate his access fob and reject his request for an external investigation. Feeling unsupported, Fearon resigned. His solicitor highlighted the police’s failure to conduct a fair investigation, leading to emotional distress.
Williams denies any relationship with Hutt during the investigation, dismissing Fearon’s claims as baseless. Parry declined to comment, stating he has moved on. Hutt, still an officer, also refrained from commenting. The case is set for a hearing in July in Liverpool.
