In a poignant homage, Rita’s offspring expressed that despite Alzheimer’s impacting her confidence and sociability, the 84-year-old was a congenial individual with a strong sense of community.

“We wish to honor our beloved mother Rita, who, along with our late father Colin, instilled in us values of compassion and kindness,” the message conveyed. “Throughout her life, she aspired to lead an independent life. She met and married our father in Malta during his service in the RAF. Courageously, she relocated to a new country, leaving her family behind in Malta.”

“Mum dedicated herself to being a seamstress and held a deep passion for fashion; always maintaining a stylish appearance. She and Dad cherished traveling and meeting new people. Even after our father’s passing, Mum continued to travel solo or with companions, both domestically and internationally, especially to her beloved Malta.”

“Mum had a fondness for music and dance, particularly for Elvis Presley and Johnny Mattis. Her home was always filled with music, showing her appreciation for contemporary tunes as well.”

“Her love extended to gardens and flowers. Upon moving to Higher Heath, she cultivated her vegetable patch and established a flourishing flower garden. A skilled horticulturist, she excelled in propagating plants from cuttings and seeds, often sharing her bounty with others. She found joy in visiting gardens for inspiration and admiration.”

“Animals held a special place in her heart; she regularly fed stray cats that eagerly awaited her. She adored garden birds, evident from the numerous bird feeders in her garden. Her favorite Robin would frequent her back door, anticipating its meals.”

“Her enduring Catholic faith, coupled with her amiable nature, fostered a strong sense of community. Mum delighted in assisting others and dedicated over two decades to volunteering at the Age UK daycare center in Whitchurch. She also volunteered her time chauffeuring individuals to appointments, assisting with shopping, and household tasks.”

“Mum’s industrious spirit shone throughout her life; she was a constant pillar of support, encouraging us to excel.”

“We will deeply miss her; despite Alzheimer’s affecting her confidence and sociability, she remained bright and engaging. We kindly request privacy during this time.”
