Tragic Affair Revelation Leads to Woman’s Fiery End

Date:

An assistant working for a politician has stated that she had a romantic involvement with a Republican congressman before tragically setting herself on fire in her backyard. Regina Santos-Aviles seemingly disclosed the affair in a text message dated April 28, 2025, where she mentioned, “I had [an] affair with our boss and I’m fine.” This revelation took place just before a Republican primary in the previous year.

In September, Santos-Aviles doused herself in gasoline and ignited it in the backyard of her residence in Uvalde, Texas, leading to her death from the injuries sustained the following day on September 14.

The 35-year-old Santos-Aviles, a mother of one, served as a regional director for Gonzales in Texas’ 23rd Congressional District, which encompasses the state’s border with Mexico. According to a colleague, news of the alleged affair circulated among the congressman’s staff during the 2024 election campaign.

A former coworker of Santos-Aviles informed the Express-News that she frequently discussed Tony. Gonzales had previously dismissed the allegations of an affair as baseless attacks against him.

Gonzales, in an interview with The New York Post, stated his refusal to engage in personal attacks and emphasized his commitment to aiding President Trump in border security and enhancing Texan lives. He praised Santos-Aviles for her community service efforts, which included advancements in school safety, healthcare, and rural water access.

He criticized his Republican opponent, Brandon Herrera, for using a disgruntled former employee to tarnish Santos-Aviles’ memory and gain political advantage. Gonzales refuted the rumors in an interview with KSAT, labeling them as entirely false. Santos-Aviles’ mother also denied the claims of an affair post her daughter’s divorce, deeming them meritless.

Javier Guerra, a former attorney for Adrian Aviles, expressed concerns about the release of his late wife’s records. The Texas Attorney General’s office announced in December its decision to seal 911 calls, police reports, and the video of Santos-Aviles’ final moments.
