A renowned UK fish and chip shop company with a history spanning over 160 years has been rescued from financial trouble through a recent acquisition deal. Established in 1865, Henry Nuttall has been a key supplier of frying range equipment to fish and chip shops nationwide. The company faced financial challenges and entered administration following the owner’s passing earlier this year.
Fortunately, the future of Henry Nuttall has been secured with its acquisition by HN Ranges, a subsidiary of RGM Leeds, an unrelated entity that also owns Hopkins, another prominent name in British range manufacturing. This deal has safeguarded all 11 jobs at Henry Nuttall, and the new ownership aims to bring long-term investment to ensure the company’s sustainability.
Administrators Richard Oddy and Jonathan Mark Amor of Azets Holdings Limited managed the process, highlighting Henry Nuttall as one of the two main UK frying range manufacturers, alongside Hopkins. The company faced financial struggles due to rising costs and a decline in demand post the owner’s demise. With pressure from creditors mounting, a swift acquisition was crucial to preserve the brand’s legacy dating back to 1865.
Henry Nuttall, which originated in a small shop in Rochdale, has evolved over the years, expanding its operations and relocating to a larger facility in Sheffield. The acquisition by RGM Leeds is seen as a positive step to ensure the continuity of operations under the independent brand trusted by loyal customers.
