Tragic Death of Young Man on First Lads’ Holiday

Date:

A young man, aged 21, tragically passed away shortly after the start of his first lads’ holiday, according to information revealed during an official inquiry.

Harvey Dominy, hailing from Merthyr Tydfil, was discovered on the floor of his hotel room in Benidorm, Spain on the evening of July 16, 2024. The Pontypridd Coroners’ Court learned that substances like cocaine, MDMA, and alcohol were detected in his system.

As reported by Wales Online, Mr. Dominy had embarked on this holiday with three friends to enjoy his first week-long lads’ trip. Witnesses Liam Mason and Levi Davies recounted how he suddenly began experiencing breathing difficulties and collapsed in their presence.

The inquiry unveiled that Mr. Mason shared videos via Snapchat with the group, depicting Mr. Dominy in distress on a balcony chair and later on the floor, appearing unwell. Concerningly, Mr. Dominy’s best friend, Liam Llewellyn, had left the hotel earlier and was unaware of the unfolding events until informed of his friend’s condition.

Staying on the 15th floor of a hotel with a malfunctioning lift, Mr. Dominy’s health rapidly deteriorated, leading to a frantic attempt by his friends to seek assistance from hotel staff, as they were unfamiliar with the local emergency contact.

During his testimony, Mr. Davies detailed Mr. Dominy’s escalating sickness, mentioning the young man feeling nauseous and eventually struggling to breathe. Despite efforts to provide water, Mr. Dominy’s condition worsened rapidly.

The inquiry disclosed that the group had obtained cocaine and MDMA upon arrival in Benidorm and consumed these substances together on the day of the incident.

Family members of Mr. Dominy expressed concerns regarding the response timeline, suggesting there may have been delays in obtaining medical aid. They described him as greatly cherished and popular among friends.

Spanish authorities estimated Mr. Dominy’s time of death between 9 pm and 10:30 pm, with emergency services confirming his passing upon arrival at 10:47 pm.

Following a post-mortem examination, the cause of death was determined to be a cardiac respiratory arrest triggered by an acute reaction to psychoactive substances. Toxicology reports confirmed the presence of alcohol, cocaine, and MDMA in his system.

Coroner Kerrie Burge acknowledged discrepancies in witness accounts, attributing them to the influence of drugs and alcohol on memory. She officially ruled the cause of death as drug-related, offering condolences to the grieving family.

In a poignant statement, Mr. Dominy’s brother, McKenzy Lee-Dominy, shared his emotional journey following the loss of their mother and then his brother. Despite the tragedies, he emphasized the therapeutic role of writing in his life and expressed a desire to help others navigate similar challenges through storytelling.
