A court trial has revealed that a man in Swindon, Wiltshire, is facing charges related to the death of his wife, who took her own life due to alleged physical and sexual violence inflicted by him. Christopher Trybus, 43, is accused of manslaughter in connection to the suicide of Tarryn Baird in November 2017 at the age of 34. Additionally, Trybus is charged with controlling and coercive behavior, as well as two counts of rape at Winchester Crown Court.
The prosecution stated that Trybus exerted control over Ms. Baird through various means, including violence, sexual assault, surveillance, financial restrictions, threats of disclosure, and isolation from her family. The prosecutor, Tom Little KC, informed the jury that Trybus engaged in a pattern of controlling and manipulative actions, including sexual violence, which culminated in Ms. Baird’s tragic decision to end her life.
According to Mr. Little, Trybus wielded influence over their relationship, instilling fear of violence even when abroad, leading to a deterioration of Ms. Baird’s mental well-being. Despite contemplating leaving him, she felt trapped by his control and ultimately resorted to suicide as a means to break free. A note left by Ms. Baird expressed her inner struggles and her inability to cope with the situation.
The couple, originally from South Africa, relocated to the UK in 2007 and married in 2009. Trybus, a software consultant and developer, denies the allegations against him as the trial proceeds.
