“British Attorney Dies After Overseas Cosmetic Surgery”

Date:

A British attorney passed away shortly after getting a Brazilian butt lift and liposuction procedures overseas due to societal pressure to maintain a slim figure in her profession, an inquest revealed.

Diarra Brown, aged 28, died on October 26, 2021, following a four-hour surgery at a private healthcare facility in Turkey. Details presented during an inquest highlighted that the young professional had borrowed a substantial £10,000 loan to finance various cosmetic treatments at the Private Memorial Hospital in Bahcelievler, Turkey, which included a Brazilian butt lift, liposuction, and an arm lift.

The lawyer opted for these procedures after facing ridicule for being overweight, aiming to boost her confidence. Post-surgery, she successfully reduced eight dress sizes, from size 18 to 10; however, she began experiencing discomfort just hours after the operation on October 22.

Shortly after the surgery, Diarra, who hailed from Wolverhampton, West Midlands, complained of feeling cold, sore, bruised, and in intense pain. The surgical team, led by Dr. Sevket Gokhan Beyhan, reassured the family that these symptoms were typical post-surgery and would subside over time.

Diarra’s mother, Daisy Brown, recounted, “The surgeon advised her that experiencing these symptoms after anesthesia was normal. She was instructed to consume fluids and food regularly and engage in light movement within the room.”

“Despite efforts to walk, she struggled due to excruciating pain and swelling in her feet, particularly the left foot. Dr. Beyhan attributed these issues to the nature of the surgery,” Mrs. Brown added.

Following a hospital visit on October 25 for dressing changes, Diarra experienced distressing symptoms, including losing bladder control. Despite her deteriorating condition, she was advised by medical professionals to return to the hotel, where she later suffered a suspected cardiac arrest. Tragically, she passed away three days after the surgery, with the likely cause of death being sepsis, as revealed during the inquest.

Dr. Vanya Gant, a clinical microbiology and infectious diseases expert from University College London Hospitals, analyzed Diarra’s medical records and concluded that she entered a state of uncontrolled septic shock.

In a statement read by assistant coroner Kelly Dixon, Mrs. Brown expressed that Diarra had felt pressured to maintain a slim physique in the legal industry. She had sought out liposuction procedures after facing weight-related taunting at work.

“The surgeon assured Diarra of the safety of the procedures, emphasizing that it would be the final step in her weight loss journey,” Mrs. Brown disclosed. The inquest is ongoing.
