Russia has issued a direct threat to target locations in the UK. The defence ministry, led by Vladimir Putin, identified several sites in London, Leicester, and Suffolk, along with others in various European countries, which it claims are producing military equipment for the Ukrainian armed forces to use against Russia.
Dmitry Medvedev, a senior Kremlin official and former Russian president, emphasized the seriousness of the threat, cautioning Western leaders to take it literally. He serves as Putin’s second-in-command on the Russian Security Council.
The ministry warned that the European facilities listed as drone and equipment manufacturers could become targets for Russian military strikes. The potential timing of such actions depends on future developments, with Medvedev advising European partners to “sleep well” amid the escalating tensions.
One of the identified addresses appears to belong to a Ukrainian missile manufacturer, co-located with a RAF base operating as a crucial US air force center. Alleged addresses in London and Leicester were also disclosed.
According to the Russian defence ministry, European countries have ramped up production and supply of drones to Ukraine to target Russian territory, amidst mounting losses and manpower shortages in the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The ministry perceives this decision as a deliberate escalation of the military-political situation in Europe.
The list of alleged production facilities extends beyond the UK, including locations in Germany, Denmark, The Netherlands, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, the Czech Republic, Spain, Italy, Israel, and Turkey. Russian commentators, such as Vladimir Kornilov, view this warning from the Russian Ministry of Defence as significant and overdue.
