“Brave Hero Thwarts Terror Plot: Fundraiser for Reward”

Date:

A crowdfunding initiative has been launched to purchase a vehicle and a vacation for a brave individual who thwarted a potentially catastrophic terror plot. Nathan Newby, aged 35, recently received the George Medal for his courageous actions from the monarch.

Nathan’s sister, Natalie Newby, in collaboration with friend Jess Shaw, covertly organized the fundraising effort to express her immense pride in him. The campaign has already raised £2,745 of its goal. The incident occurred in January 2023 outside St James’s Hospital in Leeds, where Nathan encountered Mohammad Farooq, 30, who was carrying a bomb with intentions to harm hospital staff.

Through a two-hour conversation and compassionate gestures, Nathan persuaded the would-be attacker to surrender peacefully to the authorities. Reflecting on the encounter, Nathan revealed that he emphasized the importance of family and life to the individual, ultimately guiding him to a peaceful resolution.

Natalie commended her brother’s exceptional courage and selflessness on the fundraising platform, highlighting his innate tendency to prioritize others over himself. She described how Nathan’s genuine concern and support for the distressed individual led to the prevention of a potential tragedy.

Acknowledging Nathan’s valor and empathy, Jess Shaw, with Natalie’s authorization, praised his actions and initiated the fundraising campaign to reward him with a well-deserved car and holiday. The George Medal, an esteemed UK and Commonwealth award for outstanding civilian bravery, was bestowed upon Nathan for his heroic deeds.
