Russia has issued a direct threat to target various locations in the UK, accusing them of aiding Ukraine against Moscow. The Russian defense ministry identified specific sites that it claims are producing military equipment for the Ukrainian armed forces to use against Russia. Tensions between Russia and Ukraine have been ongoing since February 2022 when Russian forces launched an attack on Ukraine.
According to reports from The Mirror, three addresses in London, Leicester, and Suffolk are among those threatened by Russia. The Russian defense ministry alleged that European countries, facing increasing Ukrainian losses and manpower shortages, have ramped up production and supply of drones to Ukraine for strikes on Russian territory.
The ministry stated, “We see this as a deliberate move that could escalate the military-political situation in Europe and turn these countries into a strategic rear area for Ukraine.” It cautioned that any terrorist attacks on Russia could result in unpredictable consequences.
In a social media post, Dmitry Medvedev, a senior Kremlin official and former Russian president, emphasized the seriousness of the threat, stating that European facilities producing drones and equipment are potential targets for Russian forces. He warned European partners to take the threat seriously and be prepared for potential strikes.
Apart from the UK, Russia also identified alleged production facilities in several other European countries. The Daily Express previously reported on the safest places in the UK in the event of a World War 3 scenario, suggesting areas away from major military bases and densely populated cities as safer options.
Experts recommended specific locations as safe havens in case of a global conflict, considering factors like distance from military installations and population density. The list highlighted areas deemed secure in worst-case scenarios.
