“Fatal Car Incident at Melbourne Comic Con: One Dead, One Critical”

Date:

One individual has died, and another is in critical condition following an incident where a car reportedly veered into pedestrians at a Comic Con gathering.

The event took place shortly after 5 pm local time at the well-attended Supanova Comic Con and Gaming event in Melbourne, Australia.

According to authorities, a grey Toyota car mounted a sidewalk on Langs Road near the Melbourne Showgrounds, striking two pedestrians. Tragically, one of the pedestrians succumbed to their injuries at the scene, while the other was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening wounds. Victoria Police stated that a man has been apprehended and is set for police questioning.

An eyewitness named Tom recounted to Nine News that as he was leaving the festival with his family, a silver Toyota raced past them. He reported hearing screeching sounds as the car mounted the sidewalk at high speed, hitting multiple individuals.

Tom described how the car executed a U-turn and then stalled, allowing him to detain the driver. He recounted saying, “you’re not going anywhere mate” to the driver.

His wife, who is a paramedic, provided medical assistance to one of the victims for 20 minutes before emergency services arrived. Tom mentioned that although the victim was immobile, he was breathing.

The area has been cordoned off as a major crime scene. It is estimated that thousands of attendees were present at the event, with other witnesses describing the incident as “graphic.”

A police spokesperson stated, “Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are probing a fatal collision in Ascot Vale this afternoon. The circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation.”
